Introduction
Programs in hospitality management are designed to
prepare people for employment in the hotel/motel, restaurant, and
recreation facilities industries.
Some programs focus on either hotel/motel
management or restaurant management. Business management is
generally the core of these hospitality programs. Students may
study accounting, purchasing and control, front office procedures,
math, business theory, and personnel management. Restaurant
management programs also include course work in nutrition, menu
planning, and food handling and storage. Programs in trade
show/convention management and gaming management are also
available. Programs are offered at universities, community
colleges, and vocational schools. Program length ranges from
six-month certificate programs to four-year bachelor's degree
programs.
