The College of The Bahamas invites applications from suitably qualified
individuals for the following positions in September 2003:
1. DEAN,
FACULTY OF ARTS & SCIENCES
The Dean of the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences will be responsible
to the Vice President, Academic Affairs for the supervision of the Schools
of Natural Sciences & Environmental Studies, Technology and Nursing
& Allied Health Professions, as well as courses and programmes being
offered through these Schools at the various Family Island sites.
Specifically, the Dean is accountable for on-going upgrading of the
educational processes at The College, assisting the respective Schools in
the design, development, establishment and evaluation of programmes and
courses, the selection of instructional and other curricular methods and
materials, and other organisational activities as delegated by the Vice
President.
Applicants should possess academic and/or professional qualifications from
an approved institution at least to the level of the Master's Degree, be
at the Senior Lecturer level and be able to show evidence of leadership,
decision-making, coordinating and planning abilities, and should have
academic and administrative experience.
The initial term of appointment is four years, with eligibility for
renewal of the appointment.
Salary Scale SM4:
Master's Degree $36,000 - $52,200
Doctoral Degree $39,300 - $54,300
2. CHAIR,
SCHOOL
OF
BUSINESS
Applications and/or nominations are invited from suitably qualified
individuals for Chair of the
School
of
Business
. The Chair will be responsible for the leadership in maintaining the
academic quality of the School including quality of teaching, interest in
the academic progress of the College, overall supervision of the School
and liaison with the community in maintaining the name of the College.
The Chair should have at least a Masterˇ¦s degree in their area of
supervision, five years of satisfactory teaching experience at the
tertiary level and three years of administrative experience at the
tertiary level. Successful managerial experience, strong leadership
qualities and a good understanding of business programs at the tertiary
level is required along with excellent communication skills.
The successful candidate will be appointed for a three year period,
renewable once for a period of two years.
This position also carries a stipend of $3,500 per annum.

SCHOOL
OF
BUSINESS
(i) Lecturer in Marketing/Management
Candidates must be able to teach a full range of Marketing and Management
courses from the introductory to the Bachelor's degree levels. Knowledge
of the Bahamian economy is desirable.
4. SCHOOL OF
COMMUNICATION & CREATIVE ARTS
(i) Lecturers in Modern Languages
Candidates to teach Spanish and French. Candidates must have native
speaker competence and be able to teach courses up to the Bachelor's
degree level. Experience in supervising teaching practice would be
desirable.
(ii) Lecturer in Journalism & Communications
Candidates must be able to teach undergraduate courses in media studies
such as reporting, mass communication, video, photojournalism and business
writing. The successful candidate will also be expected to take a role in
curriculum development and undergraduate programme administration. Minimum
of three (3) yearsˇ¦ teaching experience required in addition to
professional experience in media.

EDUCATION
(i) Lecturer in Early Childhood Education
Candidates must be able to teach Early Childhood Education Foundations and
Methodology courses and supervise student teachers.
(ii) Lecturer in Mathematics Education
Candidates must be able to teach Mathematics Methodology and Education
Foundations courses and supervise student teachers.
(iii) Lecturer in Science Education
Candidates must be able to teach Science Content and Methodology and
Education Foundations courses and supervise student teachers.
(iv) Lecturer in Speech and Drama
Candidates must be able to teach Speech and Drama at the Primary and
Secondary levels, Education Foundations courses and supervise student
teachers.
(v) Lecturer in Music Education
Candidates must be able to teach Music content and Methodology courses,
Education Foundations and supervise student teachers.
6. SCHOOL OF
NATURAL SCIENCES & ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES
(i) Lecturer in Physics
Candidate to teach physics courses up to the Bachelor's degree level.
(ii) Lecturers in Mathematics
Candidates to teach pure and/or applied mathematics up to the Bachelor's
degree level. (

(iii) Lecturer in Geography
Candidate to teach physical geography up to the Bachelor's degree level.
(iv) Lecturer in Biology
Candidate to teach Marine Science up to the Bachelor's degree level.
7. LECTURERS IN
SOCIAL SCIENCES
(i) Lecturer in Theology
Candidate to teach Theology at the Bachelor's Degree level in Systematics,
Old Testament and New Testament. Must have a Master's or Doctorate in
Theology with at least four (4) years teaching experience.
(ii) Lecturer in Law and Criminal Justice
Candidate must have a Master's degree in Criminology/Criminal Justice with
some socio-legal orientation to Law, at least four (4) years teaching and
industrial experience, be able to develop courses and teach up to the
Bachelorˇ¦s degree level, as well as liaise with appropriate government
departments.
(iii) Lecturer in Public Administration
Candidate must have a Master's degree in Public Administration with at
least four (4) years teaching experience. Must be able to teach
quantitative methods, develop Public Administration courses and be able to
teach up to the Bachelor's degree level. Knowledge of the Bahamian Civil
Service or a comparative context is desirable.
8.
SCHOOL OF
HOSPITALITY & TOURISM STUDIES
(i) Culinary Educator V Chef
The
School
of
Hospitality
and Tourism Studies is seeking a culinary educator for a Chef position.
Candidates should possess a degree in Culinary Arts/Hospitality Management
and be certified as a Certified Executive Chef or higher, a teaching
certificate or equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years teaching
experience.
The successful applicant should be competent to teach the following:
*Introductory through advanced cooking
*Baking
*Pastry
*Garde Manger
*Sanitation
*Menu Design
*Food Preparation
(ii) Culinary Educator: Pastry Chef
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Culinary Arts
and be certified as an Executive Pastry Chef, or higher, with a minimum of
five years' working and management experience and three (3) years in
Culinary Education, preferably with a teaching certificate. The applicants
should also be competent to teach introductory through advanced pastry and
baking and must have strong knowledge and skills in confectionery and
wedding cake designs.

SCHOOL
OF
ENGLISH STUDIES
(i) Lecturers in English
Candidates must be able to teach courses through to the Bachelor's level
in the area of composition and rhetoric. (

SCHOOL
OF
NURSING
(i) Lecturers in Nursing
Candidates must be able to teach courses at both the Associate and
Bachelor's levels. The ability to develop courses and engage in research
would be an asset. Candidates must be highly motivated and be able to work
with minimal supervision.
The following requirements are necessary for the successful candidate:
*At least a Master's Degree in Nursing
*At least two years teaching experience
*A basic specialty in Midwifery preferable
*A strong knowledge of the nursing profession
*Be registered with the Nursing Council of the
Commonwealth

11. LIBRARIAN
(Northern Bahamas Campus)
The College of The
Bahamas
seeks a professional Librarian for its
Northern Bahamas
Campus. The position requires a skilled, confident, creative individual
with excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership and research
skills. Candidates should be able to work with a diverse staff and
clientele and be familiar with library automation systems (e.g. Voyager),
computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Access and with
electronic and CD-ROM products and services, such as EbscoHost, PROQUEST
and SIRS. Advanced internet searching skills are essential. Positions will
require participation in evening and weekend work, library and college
projects and teaching in the library instructional programmes.
Candidates must have a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science
and at least two years post Master's Degree professional experience, which
includes supervision of paraprofessionals, coordination of a library
functional area or branch, e.g. Reader & Information Services, Special
Collections, and development and promotion of library services.
Candidates must have qualifications up to the Master's degree level plus
at least one year of teaching at the college level. Teacher training as
well as prior experience is desirable, though not mandatory in all cases.
The salary scale ranges from $29,600 to $47,800 per annum.
