Director, School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration
The University of New Orleans, one of the Urban 13 universities and
enrolling 17,000 students, is seeking applications and nominations for the
Director of the Lester E. Kabacoff School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism
Administration. The School, which resides within the AACSB accredited
College of Business Administration, is also accredited by ACPHA and will
be moving into a new, state of the art building in the summer of 2005. The
Director reports to the Dean of the College of Business Administration and
is responsible for providing academic and administrative leadership in
partnership with the college, alumni, and industry constituents. The
Director will also serve as a Co-Director of the Hospitality Research
Center that undertakes nation-wide grant based research for the
hospitality and tourism industry.
The School offers classes in all major areas of hospitality and tourism
and has a total of approximately 350 undergraduate and 75 graduate
students. The School enjoys a strong working relationship with the large
and growing tourism industry in New Orleans and benefits from a
multi-million dollar foundation.
The Director will develop a shared vision and lead the school into a
preeminent global position in the 21st century.
Minimum Qualifications:
1) An earned doctoral degree
2) Teaching and/or research interests in the hospitality and tourism field
3) A record of research, teaching, and service, meriting tenure at the
rank of Associate Professor/ Professor
4) Demonstrated administrative abilities
5) Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a track record of
community and industry involvement
6) Leadership skills that include facilitating creative thinking,
developing consensus around a vision, and implementing a vision
7) Hospitality and tourism industry experience
Desired Qualifications:
1) At least one degree in the area of hospitality and tourism
2) Experience in academic planning, curriculum development, accreditation,
budgeting, faculty recruitment, and development
3) Experience in fund-raising, and grant writing
