The Department of Student Auxiliary Services -
Dining Services has an opening for a Unit Manager for
Retail Services. The Unit Manager reports to the
Associate Director of Retail Services and is responsible
to provide excellent customer service and high quality
food with a pleasant overall dining experience at the
Maine Marketplace and all retail locations. Employee is
expected to work as an individual as well as a team
member. Responsibilities include directly supervising a
number of retail supervisors. The person will indirectly
supervise all student employees and all
front-of-the-house classified employees; directly
oversee and schedule retail supervisors, service staff,
cashiers and their responsibilities to maintain the
facility to optimum operating performance. Oversee cash
management process; serve as The University of Maine
liaison for Taco Bell that will require periodic Taco
Bell training as well as certification. Oversee the
Marketplace to ensure all stations are operating
efficiently and maintaining customer service standards.
Handle administrative duties that include classified
scheduling, student scheduling, payroll tabulation and
date entry, Taco Bell documentation, maintenance and
record keeping, and training. Provide feedback to the
Associate Director of all operational challenges that
occur; and oversee other reasonably related duties as
assigned. A Bachelor of Science or Associate Degree with
emphasis on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional
management or Culinary Arts is preferred. Demonstrated
significant relevant experience in a quality high volume
marketplace, food court, retail food establishment or
restaurant with a focus on outstanding customer service,
a keen appreciation of quality and detail in preparation
and presentation, and the ability to work effectively
with minimal supervision. Demonstrated commitment to
total quality management and supervisory experience,
excellent oral and written communication skills and some
culinary knowledge are required. Experience with
computer skills (using a menu management system),
electronic access/point of sales systems, Microsoft
products (Word, Excel, Power Point), and PeopleSoft
preferred but not required. Individual must have an
ability to do frequent lifting and standing and must
also successfully complete a pre-employment physical and
credit background check. Review of applications will

candidate is found. Proposed salary range: $32,000 -
$38,000 plus full University benefits including health
and life insurance, sick and vacation time, holidays, an
excellent retirement plan and tuition waiver. This is a
full time on-going professional position with a work
schedule outside the normal schedule, including nights
and weekends, which is frequently required. Send letter
