DIRECTOR OF DINING SERVICES
Bates College is a residential, four-year liberal arts
and sciences college with a reputation of distinction.
The College is located in Lewiston, Maine, approximately
35 miles north of Portland, and is approximately two
hours, by automobile, north of Boston.
The Director of Dining Services provides leadership to
the food service function of the College.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not
limited to planning, directing, organizing and
controlling the food service operations of the College.
The Director is responsible for leading and developing a
staff of 90 and serves as their advocate. She/he manages
an operational budget exceeding $5 million. The
successful candidate must foster a positive,
collaborative, team-oriented environment and be flexible
and adaptable to the needs of a dynamic and changing
campus. This position must be visible, accessible, and
responsive to all campus constituencies. Bates Dining
Services provides food service for 1700 students and
with a growing on-campus catering program. The quality
of food services provided to campus constituencies is
well regarded and the department's aim is to
continuously improve its service to the campus
community.
Required credentials and qualities include: a bachelor's
or master's degree in a related discipline, a record of
relevant and progressive career advancement and
professional accomplishment, strong business management
skills, strong oral and written communications skills,
good interpersonal skills, an interest in being a part
of making positive change, energy and enthusiasm for the
work, a sense of humor, a demonstrated record of
developing staff capabilities, and the ability to think
strategically and work hands-on. An applicant with an
associates degree as the highest academic credential may
be considered where work experience is exceptional.
College and university food services experience is
strongly preferred.
