Director of Dining Services. Rooted in an abiding faith in the

body of approximately 675 full-time undergraduates and graduates. Situated
on the gentle slopes of a 550-acre former dairy farm, Bennington College
is located in Southwestern Vermont, a vibrant college community adjacent
to numerous recreational areas. Mountains, lakes and some of America's
most beautiful rivers provide varied outdoor activities, from skiing to
white-water rafting, fly-fishing and hiking. Numerous cultural
opportunities abound within the surrounding area. Additionally, the
College is located within three-hour drive to some of North America's
greatest cities: Boston, New York, and Montreal. Reporting to the Director
of Student Life and Campus Services, the Director of Dining Services is
responsible for the overall supervision and management of the dining
service operations. The operations include a dining commons feeding 675
students with a mandatory 19 meal plan, snack bar, student café and
catering. The position assists with vision, direction, leadership and
creative solutions to serve the needs of our growing, diverse customer
base. The Director is responsible for the administration and direct
management of a $1.4 million operational budget; policy development and
enforcement; resource management; maintenance of health, sanitation and
safety standards; annual budget development; financial accountability and
cost controls; food integrity; quality customer service; facilities
management; and computer administration. The position oversees
approximately 30 full- and part-time staff, including a management team of
4 personnel, and is responsible for staff supervision, hiring,
training/development, and evaluation. The director must be flexible and
adaptable to the needs of a dynamic and changing campus. Bachelor's degree
in a related discipline; relevant and progressive experience with
demonstrated leadership, personnel management and business management
skills; experience with staff supervision and development; exposure to
labor management practices/environment preferred; experience in menu
development, food production, handling and storage, quality control and
health and safety; strong knowledge and experience in financial management
and accounting practices; knowledge and skill in marketing and
merchandising concepts; effective communication and interpersonal skills;
proficient in advanced computer operations and general knowledge of
on-line processes to administer and manage food service computer systems.
