Boston Market (formerly Boston Chicken) once looked like it had a run-in with the Boston Strangler. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 1998 and was bought by McDonald's two years later. It has about 650 Boston Market restaurants in 28 states -- primarily along the East Coast and in California -- featuring the fast-food equivalent of a home-cooked meal (meatloaf, rotisserie-roasted chicken, turkey, ham, and a variety of vegetables). Boston Market also provides catering services and has a licensing agreement with H.J. Heinz to sell packaged grocery products under the Boston Market name.
