Long John Silver's Restaurants is the pirate king of quick-service seafood restaurants, with more than 1,200 units in 36 states. The chain (which takes its name from a pirate character in Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island ) features such menu items as batter-dipped fish, chicken, and shrimp, as well as sandwiches, salads, and desserts. The concept was developed by Warren Rosenthal and James Patterson, both executives of Jerrico Inc. (a franchising pioneer with roots tracing back to 1929). Restaurant giant Yum! Brands (previously known as TRICON) bought Long John Silver's in 2002.
