Sodexho Alliance SA is primarily engaged in the provision of food and management services to companies, government agencies, public and private schools, universities, healthcare establishments and retirement homes. This business also includes prestige dining and management of conference halls and cultural centers. Sodexho is engaged in remote site management at major onshore and offshore work sites. Sodexho also provides detention and correction services. The Company is also engaged in the creation of voucher and card programs and the operation of river and harbor cruise lines.

Food and Management Services

At the heart of the Company's core business is the provision of food and other managed services for companies and government agencies. In response to client demand, Sodexho offers multi-service packages combining food services, building upkeep and supervision, groundskeeping, and management of other business services, such as help desks, switchboard reception and technical maintenance. The Company also provides correctional facilities services in the United Kingdom , France and Australia . At the same time, Sodexho continues to develop partnerships with museums and sports events, including the British Grand Prix and the Tour de France bicycling race.

In public and private healthcare establishments, specific nutrition, hygiene and special events programs have been implemented to help patients settle in and feel at ease. Restaurant facilities especially designed for the handicapped are also being developed and installed in a large number of countries.

In order to serve the retirement and nursing home segment, Sodexho is leveraging all the experience and expertise it has acquired in the healthcare market. Transfers of innovations and skills have all been carefully adapted to the needs of seniors. One example is the "mixed meals" concept developed in Canada that has been introduced in the United States , France , Belgium , and now Spain . Each food item is mixed then reconstituted in its original form, preserving its natural flavor and appearance. This makes dining easier and more pleasurable for people who have trouble swallowing.

In retirement homes managed by Sodexho in France , the chef, dressed in full costume, fixes a meal in front of residents. The event is designed to appeal to the senses, provide entertainment, and encourage dialogue by bringing kitchen teams into the dining rooms. As a result, residents' appetites have picked up and relations between patients and food service staff have improved.

In the Education segment, Sodexho has intensified its strategy of working closely with educators, scientists, parents and students. For each age group, the Company explores new concepts for products, services, dining environments and events programming. This process involves the extensive transfer of skills between its country organizations and their careful adaptation to local requirements.

In France, the customer profiling program has led to the development of specific formulas for each age group, such as Discovery buffets for two- to six-year-olds, Freedom buffets for seven- to 14 year-olds, and the Get-away Cafe for 14- to 18-year-olds. Other closely targeted programs now being rolled out in other countries include the Eetcetera concept from the Netherlands , the Key West fast food formula for 12- to 18-year-olds from Belgium , and the Hot Shop from Sweden .

Sodexho Prestige offers customized, premium dining services for prestigious clients in exceptional venues. Sodexho Prestige also manages reception and conference centers. In the Business and Industry segment, it manages Chairman's tables and executive dining rooms in a number of companies.

Sodexho offers remote site management services, which it provides in a wide array of markets, such as oil and gas, mining, construction, forestry and major industrial projects. On each site, the Company organizes and manages all the services that thousands of people living together in remote settings need to work and live in the best possible conditions. Each contract requires a purpose-designed package of services, which may include anything from the installation of a laundry or a bakery to the management of a water treatment plant.

The Company has developed a special multi-services approach for correctional facilities that, in addition to foodservice, manages all services capable of improving inmate living conditions. Sodexho's multi-service offering includes people services, such as foodservice, professional training, healthcare, teaching and sports and cultural activities; support services, such as transportation, mail collection and delivery, maintenance and cleaning, and management of administrative and clerical services concerning inmate sentences, such as management of inmate records and calculation of release dates. The Company has introduced certificate-granting training programs in correctional facilities. In addition, the Company has set up services to help inmates find jobs once they are released.

Sodexho Pass

Sodexho Pass, the Company's service vouchers and cards brand, operates in 24 countries. Since the launch of the Cheques-Restaurant meal vouchers in France in 1978, the product range has steadily expanded to vouchers for gifts, gasoline, employment and medicine. Service vouchers and cards can be used in many ways, depending on the client's needs and tax legislation. Sodexho Pass enables companies, institutions and governments to offer users any number of advantages in affiliated establishments.

Two smart card applications have been introduced: Adicarte in France , Italy and the United Kingdom , and the Unik card in Brazil . As a complement to service vouchers, smart cards provide companies and government agencies with a modern, reliable solution to their information management needs.
