When it comes to vino, Ravenswood Winery prefers reds. The company's Zinfandel is its top seller, but it also produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, and other red and white wines. Ravenswood buys most of its grapes from third parties. Its wines are sold in the US and abroad through retailers and restaurants. Brands include value-priced Vintners Blend, mid-priced County Series , and higher-end Vineyard Designate. Ravenswood produces about 500,000 cases per year. Founded by Joel Peterson and W. Reed Foster in 1976, the company was acquired by #2 wine producer Constellation Brands in July 2001, joining Constellation's Franciscan Estates fine wine division.
