Duties: Under the supervision of the Director of Special Events the interns will coordinate events’ related activities including but not limited to the following:

PROJECT OVERVIEW:   Each year The Florida Grand Opera, a non-profit organization,  offers the opportunity to individuals, corporations and music lovers the chance to show their appreciation to this fabulous form of art by supporting its wide variety of  special events.  This upcoming  year, we are offering five (5) special events:

 

1)       Silverseas Gala, Ft Lauderdale – 11/9/03

2)       Miami Season Opening Gala -  9/15/03

3)       New Year’s Eve Gala, Miami, - 12/31/03

4)       “A Toast to the Opera”, Wine Auction -  1/24/04

5)       Ft Lauderdale Gala – 3/4/04

INTERNSHIP DURATION   Due to the fact that we are offering internship opportunities for the duration of the whole season beginning May 1, 03 till May 1, 04 , the internship schedules would be crafted to fit students needs and timetable, however each internship would be no less than 3 consecutive months.


DUTIES: to assist Director of Special Events in all activities related to the production of the benefit events including but not limited to:

·         Responsible for calling and securing program ads - # of ads and price pre-determined by producer

·         Responsible for researching  and securing donations

·         Assist in maintaining all records such as donation /ads/sponsorship information

·         Assist in event volunteer recruitment, volunteer communication, their task assignments and supervision at events.

·         Take ownership and pride in event and its benefiting organizations.

·         Assist the Director of Special Events with pre-event and post-event activities.  Attending the events.

·         Maintain proper documentation of all transactions

·         Exercise judgment and maintain confidentially on a wide spectrum of topics and issues for which discretion is required.

·          

REQUIREMENTS:

·         Excellent oral and written communication skills; good people skills

·         Ability to work independently

·         Attentive to details; skilled at prioritizing and keeping track of dates and deadlines.

·         Good follow-through on tasks.

·         Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and set priorities.

·         Computer experience required; experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) necessary.

·         Ability to work flexible hours when needed (some evenings).

·         Ability to accurately manage complex processes and procedures within established deadlines.

·         Show initiative when resolving issues

·         Proficiency in English and Spanish preferred

·         A Junior/Senior/Master students in related fields are welcome to apply

·         The Intern should have a car, preferably his/her own laptop and a Florida driving license

·         The intern will work from the Florida Grand Opera’s offices unless authorized otherwise by the Director of Special Events.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: this is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on event planning and fundraising experience.

 This will be determined during the interview.
